June 2008

What an epic issue we've got for you this month! Dealing with so many cool Fords day in day out means it takes something really quite special for us to think, we've not seen that done before. Pushing the boundaries and setting new precedents is evolution in its rawest form, it just seems that this month's cover car owner, Andrew Gallacher, only does things in extreme measures.

You'll probably recognise Andrew's name, or certainly his business – AG Motorsport, as it has been churning out Focus Cosworths in particular, faster than Ford's own Focus production line! His last Mk2 Focus Cosworth really pushed the realms of what can be done (See PF 09/07), but his latest creation has just blown us, and everyone else that's seen it, away!

Built in just three months from a pile of T45 tubing, a pair of door apertures and a lot of skill on tap, our admiration is very much heading towards Andrew and his team; just how good are you when you can create such an engineering masterpiece from nothing more than some steel pipe and a bunch of thoughts and ideas?!

If that doesn't get your Blue Oval juices flowing in an uncontrollable fashion we've got two other extremely special cars worthy of a big mention here: AVRO's Roush-tuned 720bhp Ford GT on p116 for example. It's got to be the most expensive car ever to appear on these very pages, and it certainly made us chuckle to ourselves thinking it's primarily built by the same people that produce the humble Focus. It wasn't a bad day out of the office when our chariot for the day was one of these monsters! Suffice to say we were in awe of this amazing motor car, as were the kids on bikes that stopped to say ‘wow! It's one of those cars Clarkson drove', and the elderly folk that dropped their windows to tells us what a lovely car we had. There in lies the problem, it wasn't ours, and unless our fortunes change one of these never will be either... ah well...

Following that little lot is an up close look at Malcolm Wilson's own road-going RS1700T. It's the last one in existence and reminds us of an exciting period at Ford, namely the early 1980s! As we're sure you're all aware the RS1700T has always been known as the car that never was as the project was canned before the production line reached vehicle number 20, so spending time with Malcolm's car was a great privilege that we're hoping comes across in the full feature, which starts on p30. So, turn the page and enjoy the fine selection of Ford machinery we've selected for your reading pleasure... and as a final note we've got another track event lined up on 24 July at Snetterton, turn to p13 and get your place booked now before they sell out... we'll very much enjoy seeing you there!

Dave
